The annual Michaelmas Fair is Abingdon’s oldest tradition, and best attended event.
A number of local restaurants set up camp on their doorsteps to take full advantage, including Dorindo’s Mexican Restaurant.
There were no gaps between the stalls and rides along the full length of the fair, which stretches from the Market Place to the double mini roundabout off Drayton Road – more than half a mile.
The Town Council website says ‘It is the longest street fair in Europe.’
There was a town fair before there was Christian worship? I am sure that while the fair is a very old tradition, it is not the oldest.
Bit of a pinch point, in some areas. Where the road narrows. Thankfully Where Bellingers ‘was’ is still open area. When {if} built on will make a difference to the fair layout?.
It just feels like the longest
Wow, certainly looks great at night. I only got a chance to see it randomly during the day but all those lights and colours really are a photographer’s dream! It does seem to go on forever, I’m not surprised it’s the longest in the UK but the longest in Europe, that takes some doing! Well done Abingdon!
