The Fair is in Town – for the young in heart

The Fair is in Town
High Street and Ock Street were closed from this morning for the setup of the fair. Locals came to walk and cycle and scoot the length of the fair to see the rides.

Let us hope the good weather holds out and that it will be good fair with no accidents. The best advice, if you chance to enter the maze of mirrors, is ‘walk slow with hands in front of you’.
The Fair is in Town
Stay young at heart and believe that dreams can come true, but never forget there are pirates about.

Don’t bang your head getting into the Minion Tour bus.

The world is your teacup.
The Fair is in Town
Should your fairground horse escape enjoy the free ride.

I arrived back in Abingdon yesterday to find one of the rides directly overlooking my bedroom and a fair that will take place on a Monday and Tuesday until 11pm (so at least 12pm before the noise starts to stop).

As the roads are closed and the bus stops moved another ten minutes walk further out of town, my journey into Oxford was another hour on the bus this morning making me late for work, as it will tomorrow.

Why does this have to be in the middle of town, why not put it in the field next to Nag’s head where it doesn’t shut down the town centre. Why have it on a Monday and Tuesday and not a weekend?

I understand that this is a ‘tradition’ of ‘Europes longest street fair’ but let’s face it, it’s a standard set of Carney rides and burger vans not a nice Christmas market with carnival goods.

I enjoyed a wonderful stroll down the full length of fair and watching the delight on babies and toddlers faces as they enjoyed the little kids rides, I hope all the teenagers who go tonight enjoy themselves and it stays fine for them, just wish their was more for the young to do in Abingdon at night.
