This advert is from Marie in Abingdon sixty years ago, at a time when the business was just twenty years old.
There is a ten day exhibition in Abingdon Museum celebrating eighty years of Marie, the boutique in Bath Street Abingdon. The exhibition features corsets and lingerie dating back to Victorian times. There are also old photographs and artifacts from the original Marie shop.
Spare a thought for another anniversary? This day 76 years ago (15-09-1940) the R.A.F inflicted the heaviest casualty & aircraft losses agains the Luftwaffe, the “Battle of Brittain” as it became known prompted one of Churchils finest speeches containing the words ” Never in the course of human conflict have so many owed so much to so few” he was of course referring to the Spitfire & Hurricane pilots who fought off the invaders !
Why is this exhibition squished in the education room in the basement I wonder …… too risqué for the gallery. That’s a bit pants!!! 😀
