Below Abingdon Bridge there is a little bit of flooding over by the Abingdon Vale Cricket Pitch, but nothing like last winter.

During the winter months, on Abingdon Bridge, work is underway on the roof of the Nags Head pub, and nearby at ,the Abingdon Boat Centre, work is happening on the ex-chandlery shop that will open as a Riverside Cafe in the Spring, with the Chandlery moving to the smaller building alongside.

Unit 1 of the Old Gaol restaurants has been let. If Captainkaos’s rumour is correct, then it will become Koh Abingdon, a Thai restaurant – part of the expanding Koh Thai chain.

No movement at the Upper Reaches yet. This hotel is owned by Caparo Hotels who say on their web site ‘Caparo Hotels is a management and investment company, which currently operates four hotels in Southern and Central England.’ But they show only three.

Information about the Upper Reaches has been removed since last year.
I thought that Cranbourne had acquired The Upper Reaches – for flats and a hotel?
Good new about the restaurant and the riverside cafe. It’s about time that Abingdon utilised its Thameside status more.
We all have to attend the Environment presentation on the 20th of this month to ensure that the proposed channel to run the flood waters past the flood plains in Oxford do not lead to more water seeking a flood plain in Abingdon. I see that the old flood measure has been taken off the Wharf building along Wilsham Road. As it is now housing I do not think that the developer wanted to worry the residents. It went a good 3 feet up the building. Sometimes now the river comes to approximately 1 inch below the bank along the Wilsham Road. It would not take much more water to flood South Abingdon
Daniel – that info was from Capt K’s “word on the street” – not sure if anyone has confirmed it.
It was…but the captain is often right about such things. No doubt we’ll all know soon.
Spoke with wild wood restaurants today worried because worked had stopped in the shop several weeks ago and I thought they may have had a change of heart ? They wouldn’t say why worked had stopped, but they said work will resume shortly and they hope to open in 10 to 12 weeks !
Thanks Capt for the update. I seem to remember the Vodafone shop took ages to finally open, so maybe Wildwood are having similar issues ? Looking forward to eating there as the Didcot one is very nice.
