There have been banners around town for the annual Abingdon Alpha Courses
There was an introductory meeting with a free meal at the Spice Valley Restaurant this evening. An invited speaker told people how his life had been turned around after he went to an Alpha course, and found out about God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit.
Alpha is a ten week introduction to the Christian Faith. Each week there is a talk at the start and then a discussion.
133 people were there for the launch event – and there is room for more at any of the venues.
It was a brilliant evening, buzzing, great food, lots of fun conversation, and the speaker, Simon Pinchbeck, gave a gripping talk about his life as a Copper, how he drifted into major Crime, and then how he became a Christian and the massive turnaround that following Christ has had on his life. There’s lots of Alpha Courses running around town, and they are open to everyone, they are great places to explore the big questions of life.
At a time when the Archbishop of Canterbury and the Pope said that Christianity faces iniolation in its very birth place it’s both refreshing and reassuring to see the Christian faith being practised so joyfully in our Christian land !
