Revolution

Revolution
Mike Foster is standing for election as our next Member of Parliament on May 7th and is the only candidate offering a revolutionary alternative to the existing capitalist system.

He says “Capitalist Society leads to stress and alienation where people are struggling in poverty or debts while the economy advantages the very rich. The alternative is for the community to democratically manage it’s resources and environment – replace the capitalist system entirely with one where production is centred on meeting peoples needs and wants rather than generating profit for the owners of capital.”

Ahh, now this is revolutionary, and not likely to be well received by those who cannot stomach the S word – mainly because they have no idea what it means.

I probably would not go as far as Mike, but I do regard myself as an economic socialist.

Apart from a split infinitive and a misplaced apostrophe, I think a loss of deposit beckons. And I think they tried such a command economy in somewhere called the Soviet Union … didn’t fare too well …

looked at their site – looks like under their government it would be illegal to start a business doing something that others already do if they think its not needed – want to make shoes? – tough, there’s another shoe factory already.
plus they think they can take your business from you – for the public good of course!

Socialism is great as a concept. Unfortunately it doesn’t actually exist anywhere.
Seems a simply choice for now: Capitalism (with a smattering of corruption that can usually be addressed) or Socialism with institutional corruption and unfettered power for a small cabal.

Benevolent Dictatorship is the way to go ! Perhaps genetic Engineering might one day combine Saddam Hussein and Ghandi’s genes ? (Tongue very firmly in cheek)

Great posts Backstreeter, I wish our election was as interesting. Presumably with their embracing of the democratic process they aren’t Very Revolutionary or are the proletariat going to rise up if they don’t win the election? I won’t hold my breath. Still, points for having authentic Trotsky facial hair thing going on, well done that candidate.

As you say, Spike, human fallibility gets in the way all the time.
    As Belloc wrote:
“Th’accursed power that rests on privilege,
(and goes with women and champagne and bridge),
Broke, and democracy assumes her reign –
(which goes with bridge and women and champagne)”

“Look look, I’m being oppressed !”… yup, well the trouble with Socialism is you soon run out of other people’s money. He does look very despondent which is nice really, perhaps his mum will vote for him.
