Pigeons don’t have a rest day.

Pigeons enjoy food and the chance to co-operate
There were quite a few shops open today in Abingdon. But it was Sunday and there were not so many people.

There were still the same number of pigeons.

I saw one getting chased out of Greggs. The open door, with warm smells, was too much of a temptation.

Pigeons congregate wherever there is the chance to co-operate, or find food, every day of the week. They don’t have a rest day.

Out of interest…aren’t the council tax payers of Abingdon paying for people to be addressing this rather sad image of the town centre on a Sunday? If so…can we have our money back?

If we are not…then of all the money that does get spent, willy nilly, would it not be erudite to spend some to address this problem? Didcot does. Wantage does.

What is Scottish Widows (or whoever the subsidiary is) doing about this? They are ‘renting’ the buildings….? And if it is ‘nothing’, then what is The Vale doing about Scottish Widows doing nothing!? The Vale is the freeholder…and should be able to give the leaseholder a kick up its “arsk-no-questions….”. Why aren’t they?

Should we assume that the Councillors are powerless…and it is the Council Officers who are actually being ineffective? In which case, what are their PDR objectives? By what criteria is their performance measured – or lack of it?

I was. But I was in Didcot ( and so were a great many others).

Having said that Rudi, to a degree I agree with you…

    ….in addition…

Tens of thousands of pounds has been spent on trying to get Abingdon up and running as a better shopping experience; hasn’t it? With debatable success.

Tens of thousands of pounds has been spent on Didcot and Wantage with great success.

I drag myself out of bed, to go to a job I can’t stand to get paid money I can ill afford to have squandered on council tax that bears little bang for my hard earned buck.

It just bothers me… Perhaps I’m the one with the issue though….

On another note, but concerning the precinct, I see that there are now 6(?) signs notifying me that it is “Bury Street Abingdon” that I am in, along with a silhouette of the County Hall, on new signs (possibly illuminated?). Because, obviously, if you suddenly find yourself standing in the precinct and not know where you are, then the signs will tell you that you are in Abingdon… My question is this:- who funded these, and how much? Is this from my taxpayers funds, and what use are they supposed to be? They can’t be to attract footfall…to see them you have to be already there? But still no brown sign on the A34 to notify passing traffic of the oldest town….

Despite having his muzzle on, Benny the greyhound managed to get a few tail feathers from a pigeon when we were sitting outside Java and Co. The pigeon had been wandering around oblivious to the large animal quivering with excitement. Pigeons are very stupid which is why we aren’t knee deep in them.
The pigeon retreated to the roof of NatWest. I hope it was OK.
