Kingfisher Canoe Club members – clearing the river

clearing the river
Kingfisher canoe club members were out on the River Thames in Abingdon on Sunday – litter picking.

Jen says “It’s amazing how much rubbish, in particular plastic, we picked up from such a short stretch of river that is a hazard to birdlife and fish and everyone who enjoys the river and its banks!

There is also a picture of Tigger who Jen rescued from the river a little while ago.

Advent Windows on South Avenue

Christmas Bazaar
Along the top part of South Avenue in Abingdon, the window designs are being revealed one day at a time during advent.

The window for today – day 17 – shows ‘Joy to the World’, and outside the house is a board explaining what is happening. You can donate money in the envelopes provided and pop it through the letter box for the Helen and Douglas House Charity.

To get to South Avenue: either take the bridleway from the Oxford Road, or take the cycle track from the Long Furlong Community Centre, or drive from the Oxford Road along North Avenue, down West Avenue to get to South Avenue.

Advent Day 16 – Christmas Bazaar and Cards For Good Causes (final day)

Less than 10 days to go now… A German Sausage stall appeared on the Market Place in Abingdon today

There was also a German Lebkuchen and Gingerbread stall.

The event was organised by Dawn who also organises the Chilli Festival. As usual for an event by Dawn there was music playing and lots of fun. Saucey Lady was there with some Chilli Sauce.
Christmas Bazaar
The Bug Store provided some gift ideas for anybody with a bug loving relative. All part of a wide ranging Christmas Bazaar – thanks to Dawn.

Meanwhile over the road, in St Nicolas Church, Cards For Good Causes had their final day after a very good run.

A young lady customer kindly posed for this picture. She looked so colourful.

The Christmas Tree has been chopped to size and the lights disentangled. Everything should soon be ready for Christmas at St Nics.

Advent Day 15 – Farmers Market on the Market Place with Carols

Farmers Market
Today on the Market Place was the monthly Farmers Market. Here is David Busby selling his ‘Abingdon Honey’. David Busby has hives on a number or properties round Abingdon, and is often called to collect swarms of bees when they land somewhere where they could be a danger.
Farmers Market
During the Market the Christian Aid singers were singing traditional carols.

They were accompanied by the Abbey Brass who will be appearing next at Wootton & Dry Sandford Community Centre with the Wootton Warblers. Details of that December 16th concert – Musical Delights in December – can be found on the Abbey Brass Website.
