Abingdon Peace Group – Jumble Sale
The Jumble Sale at 11 a.m., yesterday, at the Northcourt Centre was a fund-raiser for the Abingdon Peace Group.
The entrance fee was 50p but after that there were a lot of bargains to be had. Books and clothes and shoes were mostly 20p.
Near the entrance were a group of tables piled high with a daunting pile of clothes, with shoes nearby. The clothes and shoes were mostly women’s and children’s. Along the back wall was a table of books, and CDs. Along the side wall were toys, and games, and at the square of tables near the stage was bric-a-brac. On the stage itself were an assortment of travel cases and a sign that read ‘Fanny’s Rest Room: Eat Here and Get Gas’.
Coffees and teas were served in the smaller room at the side.
First COMMUNI-TEA DROP-IN
This morning at St Ethelwold’s House, East St Helen Street, Abingdon, there was the first Communi-tea drop-in. This will be a monthly happening on the second Saturday of the month.
Organised by Emma, from More In Common, and Sue from Host Abingdon, among others, it was a chance to meet, over a cup of tea, people new to Abingdon, some from country’s with conflicts and wars, and some just new to Abingdon.
There were a lot of people there, and everybody was welcomed by one of the Abingdon Town Criers, who, on this occasion, had somebody to translate.
The snow that wasn’t
There have been forecasts of snow this weekend.
Last night a few snow flakes could be seen falling when you looked at the streetlights. It could have been the first snow of the winter here in Abingdon. But this morning there is not a lot of snow about – just a thin covering on a couple of roofs in West St Helen Street.
Snowdrops are still to be seen near Old Abbey House, along the wall bordering the garden.
