Could this be the boat once marooned near Abingdon Lock?

This came from Stephen a couple of days ago. He says …
Marooned Boat
“I think this is the boat that used to be marooned on land between the Abingdon Bridge and Abingdon Lock. Swept downriver by the floods to the first weir (from Abingdon direction) at Sutton Courtenay, it lies smashed and wedged.”
Marooned Boat
“Even if I’m wrong I’m sure somebody can identify the boat.”

The boat in question was last seen on this blog on 12 January 2014 caught in the safety fence before Culham weir.

Do you know this flag or why it has been flying over Abingdon’s County Hall?

Commonwealth Flag
Over the last week a new flag has been flying over Abingdon County Hall. It was raised on Monday (March 10) and has been there all week.
Commonwealth Flag
Abingdon Councillor Mike Badcock, Chairman of the Vale of White Horse District Council, was joined by Cadet Corporal Henry Hart, of Abingdon School Combined Cadet Force, who raised the Commonwealth Flag above County Hall.

The flag raising is part of an initiative to celebrate the Commonwealth, and happened in many districts in the UK, including the Vale of White Horse.

Abingdon First

Abingdon First
A new Abingdon website has been set up by some concerned – anonymous – individuals. They see a need to make the people of Abingdon aware of some of the big issues facing the town, which they feel have not had a big enough airing. They want to get the real facts out into the open, and hold councils and councillors to account.

Possible campaigns mentioned so far are:

  • The traffic / a second river crossing / opening up of a Lodge Hill diamond interchange
  • How the precinct is used
  • The second phase of the Charter development

So far they have given their opinions, and would like comments on:

  • The Guildhall development and Cinema
  • More Houses being built

The web site is called Abingdon First and was launched just over a week ago.
