There is sometimes a free ride after the Sunday Evening 8pm Fair Service. This year the service was led by the Rector himself, and he brought St Helen’s Church Choir as an added bonus. The Rector is seen here leading the festive fun with the Mayor of Abingdon.

Next day I was amazed how many families were out before the sun went down. This is a view along Ock Street.

It can take a long time to walk the full length of Ock Street and High Street to get to the Body Count at St Nics – with so many people about.

The Fair comes to town

The annual Michaelmas fair was set up this morning. The flow of traffic over the Iron Bridge was reversed to route Ock Street traffic round by Caldecott Road.

Most of the rides are in their customary place. The Helter Skelter is always near the County Hall.

I’ll have to wait for the slogan to be completed to see what is in front of the Cross Keys.

It was a wet morning , although it brightened by the afternoon. The forecast looks OK for Monday.
Local Stop, on Ock Street, opened today

The new Local Stop, on Ock Street, opened today – where one of the Thresher group’s off licences used to be.

For the first couple of weeks they will be open 10am-11pm, but plan to open from 7am in a couple of weeks time.
With the annual Michaelmas Street Fair coming tomorrow they could have a very busy start up.
Pat Hobby Thanksgiving

On a wet afternoon there was a good turn out for this service. The Rector Charles Miller got stuck in M40 motorway traffic and arrived a little late so the curate filled in.
Highlights..
Mr Russel Hobby gave a family tribute
The Choir of St Nics school sang ‘Love me Tender’. Pat liked Elvis and taught at St Nics and would have loved this.
Nigel Warner, town clerk, gave a civic tribute
Then there were tea and cakes in the side aisle.
