Albert Park Seats

A month or so ago there was a letter to the Abingdon Herald…

Sir, I notice that the last bench bordering the southern path in Albert Park has been removed. This leaves only two in the whole park…

There was this, the only remaining example of the benches that used to be all round the park…

and this one donated from Steventon Railway Station in 1986.

A reply came from Christs Hospital, the Abingdon Charity, that look after the park.

For many years the benches have suffered from vandalism and repairs have been carried out…
Seat at Albert Park from the Almshouses
Two metal benches, from our almshouse gardens, have been installed…

But, during the last 12 months in particular, the vandalism has been to such an extent that some benches were beyond repair and so had to be removed…

We are looking at purchasing some replacement benches and two local people have offered to fund the purchase of a bench each. Any further donations for this purpose will be most welcome.
