Preston Road Jackpot

Every Tuesday at Preston Road Community Centre, doors open at 7pm, and its eyes down at 8pm for Bingo that finishes just before 10pm. There is room for more tables if more people come along.

Also at the centre on 7th April the Abingdon Wine Circle have their monthly meeting and the theme will be wines from Catalonia, including a very unusual orange wine.

Goslings on the cycle path

Malvin sent me this picture of a group of goslings on the cycle path beside the Mill Stream through the Abbey Meadows.

It is always a good idea to cycle slowly at that part on the path. There are pedestrians, and wildlife. In the new Highway Code, the “Hierarchy of Road Users” ranks road users in order of those who are most at risk in the event of an accident. It does not mention wildlife.

I was amazed last weekend to hear the loud sounds of fireworks during the birds breeding season. I have never investigated whether firework displays need to get a license.

Clocks Change on Mothering Sunday

The clocks changed last night and today was Mothering Sunday. That meant at Trinity Church the younger ones helped make posies of flowers and put them in baskets.

They were then given out to mothers after the service. The preacher spoke about flowers and colours and what they represent. People at Trinity have become aware that the colour scheme is the same as the The Flag of Ukraine.

These flowers of wool have been at the war memorial for the last few weeks.

Market Place: Next Saturday NSPCC. This Saturday Abingdon Green Forum

Next Saturday on the Market Place in Abingdon NSPCC will have table top sales, tombola and raffle.

The last few days have been warm and sunny here in Abingdon. This Saturday the Abingdon Green Forum were getting people to talk about Active Travel and Sustainable Transport.

There were also cyclists cycling round the town centre to make the local councils aware that safer routes for cycling and walking are needed through the town.

Meanwhile there was a Clothes Swap for Teens in the Guildhall.
