Albert – having work done

Thank you to Ben for sending the photo of the scaffolding being put up around Albert. The scaffolding is now above Albert’s head, so he is not as visible as he used to be.

Albert is looked after by a charity called the Albert Memorial Trust, which is responsible for maintaining, preserving, administering, and keeping the memorial in good repair. In 2016, a survey of the memorial identified some repair work that needed to be done, but nothing urgent. This work is now being undertaken to restore the monument to its former glory.

In the 1980s, more substantial work was needed to repair the memorial. At that time the Albert Memorial Trust was set up. Thanks to the efforts of the Albert Memorial Trust, the memorial is now in much better condition.

Cost-of-living clinic on Wimbledon-themed Market Place in Abingdon

BBC Radio Oxford hosted a cost-of-living clinic at the Monday Market in Abingdon today. The clinic brought together several local organizations, including Citizens Advice, the Abingdon Foodbank, Abingdon Larder, and Abingdon Community Fridge.

People from BBC Radio Oxford were also there with a survey to gather information about the impact of the rising cost of living on local residents. BBC Radio Oxford are taking this roadshow around Oxfordshire and inviting local groups in each town or part of Oxford.

Also on the Market Place is a Wimbledon-themed postbox topper with tennis rackets, a ball, and strawberries. The famous tennis tournament is currently about halfway. It began on Monday, July 3, and endsĀ on Sunday, July 16.

Strawberries, a Wimbledon staple, were on sale at the fruit and veg stall at the Monday Market.

Wrong Abingdon

I did see the name Abingdon on a Medical Practice near where I am this weekend but will be unable to report on events in Abingdon-on-Thames. So if anybody has any reports send them to backstreet60@gmail.com. The medical practice is in Glasgow.
