Community Shop – Organisations looking for Volunteers

Volunteering
At the Community shop in Abingdon today there were a number of organisations looking for volunteers.
Volunteering
Didcot Railway Centre, for example, always need volunteers, whether as engine drivers, guards, signalmen, ticket office, making the teas, or, in this day and age, to help write and review policies that keep us all safe. So there are lots of opportunities.
Volunteering
I know OCVA already as I went to their offices near the police station in Oxford a few weeks back on behalf of something I’m involved with. They support voluntary organisations and try to match volunteers with organisations and help give lots of advice.
Volunteering
The Nasio Trust were also there. I remember buying a small rubber brick from them about ten years ago. The brick was a nice to have little toy but the money from such small bricks helped to finance the building of an orphanage for children orphaned by H.I.V. Since then the Nasio Trust have carried on doing lots of projects that not only aim to help over there but also motivate young people over here, giving them a new perspective on life.

Please clean up after your pets and keep them under control

Pet Owners Take Care
New signs have appeared along the Ock Valley Walk. The message is addressed to ‘Pet Owners.’

‘Please clean up after your pets and keep them under control’

Easier done with dogs… Cats make messes, but tend to do it in a neighbour’s garden rather than on public paths. Then they fight and wake all the neighbours.
Pet Owners Take Care
Dog Owners are no longer being singled out.
Pet Owners Take Care
The new notices mark a shift from the previous campaign where it was all about dogs.
