New signs have appeared along the Ock Valley Walk. The message is addressed to ‘Pet Owners.’
‘Please clean up after your pets and keep them under control’
Easier done with dogs… Cats make messes, but tend to do it in a neighbour’s garden rather than on public paths. Then they fight and wake all the neighbours.
Dog Owners are no longer being singled out.
The new notices mark a shift from the previous campaign where it was all about dogs.
Do we really need these signs? If people don’t have the common sense to clean up after their pets and keep them under control they shouldn’t be allowed to have them!
Someone cleans up after their dog but then dumps the bags by the lamposts. This is along the side of Waitrose (but I have heard happens elsewhere). There are no bins along this path which would be helpful, but no excuse for this disgusting behaviour.
As well as putting up more signs could the bins be emptied more often?
A lot of them (especially the one near Tesco) are often overflowing and are disgusting.
They are not an inducement for a dog owner to clean up
I’m glad they’ve added ‘and keep them under control’ my daughter is terrified of big dogs not on leads.
I completely agree with Annabelle, and welcome this. I have three children and my eldest, who’s 5, has been made really sacred of dogs by the number of them off leads and allowed to run up to small children along the river and the Abbey Grounds. Whilst I do feel that the local parks should be there for the enjoyment of everyone (dog and children owners alike!), I wonder what the Council will do to enforce these signs.
Yes we do need the signs otherwise how will people learn? I’d like to see you go around and take people’s pets off of them ‘Steveo’
