Get Walking

Ramblers
To encourage new members the Ramblers are organising walks throughout the country called Get Walking Days. The Abingdon Get Walking Day is on Sunday 15th May. They will be meeting at 10.30 am in the Market Place, near La Baguette, for a leisurely 4.5 mile walk which takes in Andersey Island, the Thames Path, to Thrupp House and back through the Abbey Meadow. For those interested, there will be a pub stop afterwards and a chance to see some Dragon Boat racing.

All  walks are published and the walks programme for Oxfordshire can be found at: www.ramblers-oxon.org.uk

(Thanks to Stuart for sending me the invite.)

Vulcan Bomber Over Abingdon

Air Show
I didn’t get to the Abingdon Air and Country Show this year but nethertheless did get a view of the Vulcan bomber as it first wheeled over Trinity Church, then came back a minute later over the trees of the Ock Valley Walk.

Thanks to Julian who did go to the airshow for some top notch pictures of the Vulcan and other planes …

Comedy Abingdon – first show

Comedy Abingdon
Last night at the Guildhall there was a good crowd for the first ever Comedy Abingdon with MC: Paddy Lennox and three other stand up comics.

It was a cabaret style show with people sitting at round tables. At the Guildhall bar they had boxes of two local brews: Abingdon Bridge, and Loose Cannon Pale. The two acts pictured above, including Paddy Lennox on the right, were particularly good. Profits go to local schools. Well done to the organisers and we look forward to more.

Innovative Use of Estate Agent’s Sign

Abingdon Boat Centre
This Estate Agents sign at the junction of Lucca Drive and Virginia Way is one of many around Abingdon advertising the upcoming 2011 Abingdon Air & Country Charity Show happening this Sunday. Last year the show’s organisers were not sure if it had a future as they were not allowed to land planes. Such problems have been overcome and the show now goes on. Chancellors are one of the sponsors and have shown a good use for some of their signs.
