This morning, The Boundary Walk followed the 1556 boundaries of Abingdon Borough.

On the River Thames in Abingdon throughout the day, the annual Dragon Boat racing, organised by The Rotary Club of Abingdon Vesper, was happening. It was postponed from May because of the rain and the following high river water that happened back then. Today in early September conditions were excellent and large crowds came to see the racing and look round the stalls.

Another two Heritage walks set out early afternoon. One round the Lost Abbey, the other followed the route of the lost Wilts and Berks canal and then went to see the junction of the new canal that is being recreated by the Wilts and Berks Canal Trust.

Normally Fun in the Parks takes place during the same weekend as Heritage Open Days, but Fun in The Parks was part of the Jubilee celebrations this year.

It will be interesting to see whether the Dragon Boats decides on May or September next year. Early September weather often seems to be better than May.

People had donated thousands and thousands of books to the Fire Station Book Sale. Money raised goes to the Fire Fighters Charity.

The Fire Station needed a new sign, and could be the first public body to get an Abingdon-on-Thames sign. It was unveiled by the Mayor during today’s Open Day.

Alongside the Mayor are the Fire Station Manager, and the County Council Cabinet Member for Safer and Stronger Communities which includes the Fire Service.

There were lots of other things going on for children of all ages, most involving fire station equipment.

There was even a chance for people to go up in the lift used to rescue people from high buildings, tackle high up fires, and get aerial views of incident scenes.

We are into the School Holidays and there are predictions that the jet stream is moving north and could take the wet and windy weather with it. Let us hope there is a golden Olympic summer ahead.

The first picture is of the torch relay at 7:41am, precisely, as it started at the roundabout at the top end of Oxford Road. The first runner is 007.

Stuart captured the torch relay handover at the Boundary House.

Beryl sent pictures from the Oxford Road at the junction with St Johns Road.

Andy picked up the coverage as the torch was carried from the Oxford Road and down the Vineyard.

Half way down Stert Street Syd caught the next torch carrier.

Kev was there early and had a good position at the lower end of Stert Street, where the crowd was spilling onto the roads. Abingdon had many marshalls, including soldiers from Dalton Barracks. My wife said the atmosphere was amazing.

By the time the torch had reached Paul outside his shop in Bridge Street the crowds were enormous and there was no controlling them. This runner is Margaret Brown.

Here Margaret is again thanks to Stephen. I got more pictures of Margaret than any other torch holder. The crowd thinned a little over Abingdon Bridge.
