No Bible ‘Bible Sunday’ tomorrow

Also on display this weekend and monday, At Trinity Church, (see the Trinity website for the details) there is a Triptych made by members of Summertown URC Church, in Oxford, to commemorate the 400th Anniversary of the King James Bible.

The Minister at Summertown URC used to be a member of Trinity.

There is an embroidered panel for every book in the bible.

Sunday at Trinity is Bible Sunday, but I see Revd Richard has titled the service

‘No Bible Sunday’ and there are no bible readings at all listed in the service sheet.

I will go to find out more and maybe leave a comment here tomorrow.

Joint Harvest : Trinity and Lighthouse

Harvest
At Trinity we celebrated Harvest this morning. I think Trinity are earlier than most churches – so there is probably still the chance to take along some groceries to a church near you in the weeks to come.

Trinity were joined by The Lighthouse Abingdon Church. They normally meet in the Net Young People’s centre, but during the building work of recent months have met in Trinity’s Conduit Hall.
Harvest
At Harvest today both congregations joined together. Michael, seen here in the picture on the left, and members of Lighthouse Abingdon should be back at the Young People’s Centre – soon. It is good to see Revd. Richard Bittleston, on the right, has made such a full recovery after he was struck down with a very serious illness at the start of May.

Street Pastors hit the Streets

Street Pastors
Street Pastors hit the streets in Abingdon tonight.
Street Pastors
They are easy to recognise with their distinctive caps and Street Pastor tops. There are 24 in all, all trained, and will go out in shifts.
Street Pastors
I met up with this group at around at 2 am. They had just given some young ladies some flip flops as the high heals were getting too much. They also gave out lollipops and water. The young ladies said “Thankyou Street Pastors. See you around.

Street Pastors are there just to be a friendy face and somebody to talk to and possibly calm situations.

Calling parishioners to church

Near St Helens Bells
From our garden we can see some of the steeple of St Helen’s Church.
Near St Helens Bells
Clink here to hear a sample of St Helen’s bells recorded this morning when the bells were calling parishioners to church.

When the bells were hung in 2006, according to my 2006 blog , the intention was “to make them quieter for the houses down below because of the way the bells are hung in relation to the louvre opening, but that the sound should travel further.”
