Thursday night in Abingdon Town Centre and at the first anniversary of the re-opening of The Crown and Thistle a band were playing in the barn.

Further down Bridge Street at the Broad Face jazz players were performing.

Below High Street a ‘deep excavation’ has been dug by Cappagh Browne working on behalf of Lanes Group plc. for Thames Water “to improve your sewerage network.”

A lot of new scaffolding has recently been erected on the High Street.

And outside residences, the smaller, black, ‘non-recylable’  wheelie bins are waiting for their contents to be taken away and dumped in landfill or burned at the new Incinerator at Ardley in North Oxfordshire.

Reconsultation – A415 Marcham Road and Ock Street Pelican Crossings

Re-Consultation
On March 27th The Oxfordshire County Council Cabinet Member for Transport heard representations on proposed changes to the pedestrian lights on Marcham Road and Ock Street. These changes are a prerequisite for building the 159 houses in a field off the Drayton Road, and will be funded by the developer. On that occasion 11 people spoke against the plans and the cabinet member rejected the proposal.
Re-Consultation
Following a legal challenge on the grounds that the County Council did not make clear the reason for rejection, the scheme is going back for reconsultation. On the initial occasion the Town Council objected on grounds of “increased congestion and delay, safety, and reduced air quality”
Re-Consultation
The plans have not changed. Correspondence from the first consultation will be included in the second, but people can write again. Email:Christian.mauz at oxfordshire.gov.uk no later than 26th September. A decision will be made on October 9th. The writing on brown is the location of the existing lights, and the red zig-zags are the proposed lights.

Crossing the road safely at a Puffin crossing

Puffin Crossing Training
The road works at the Wootton Road Roundabout were finished a couple of months ago. The intention was to make the roundabout safer for cyclists, after a number of accidents involving cyclists. There was also a campaign by parents and schools three or four years ago to make the Dunmore Road Crossing safer at this roundabout .

Training material about ‘Crossing the road safely at a Puffin crossing’ is still being displayed.

I did see a car slow down and wave a parent and child across even though the lights are not yet turned on.

Preston Road Resurfacing Works – Day 1

Preston Road Resurfacing
The workmen were out bright and early on Sunday, a day early, to start Preston Road resurfacing works.

They took some neighbours by surprise as the County Council must have decided to extend the resurfacing work to the junction with Lambrick Way. A few cars which were parked on Preston Road had to be moved with haste.

With the beefy machinery in place and good weather it didn’t take long to remove the old tarmac down to the hard-core of the road.

Then it was on with the new tarmac and by mid afternoon the stretch from Lambrick Way to Kensington Close was done.
