24 Hours Carol Singing Marathon
In the final 30 minutes from 11:30am to noon there was a big finale with many people coming to the final carols. About 1200 people took part during the 24 hours.

They raised money for The Archway Foundation and Blue Sky Thinking. Find out more on their facebook page.

Festive Seasons Work – Turkey Plucking

Turkey Plucking
The geese are still there in the neighbouring field, but there is not a bird to be seen in the Turkey field at Peachcroft Farm.
Turkey Plucking
There is just a sign indicating that Turkey Pluckers should park on the grass.

Town Centre Christmas Lights 2014

Christmas Lights
The Christmas Lights were turned on at 5:30 on Saturday. The big candles above the Market Place have been repaired after their first few years or use, and are looking as strong as ever in 2014.

Thanks to Peter for sending an alternative view of the fireworks that followed the lights being switched on.
Christmas Lights
The most original new light in 2014 is near the war memorial – a simple poppy.

The displays along High Street look best if you can sweep through town in a car.

Sami’s Kebab Trailer must enjoy being at the centre of this Picadilly Circus of lights. The golden lights down Bury Street, behind, got turned on a week before the rest.

I read in the Herald that about £15K was spent on new lights and light repairs by Abingdon-on-Thames Town Council round the town centre. The museum lights look as striking as ever, whether viewed outside or in.

Terry Wogan and The Reindeer at The Bookstore

Terry Wogan
Terry Wogan will be at The Bookstore, Bury Street, on Saturday 22nd November, signing copies of his latest book  called ‘Little Book of Common Sense: Or Pause for Thought with Wogan.’
Terry Wogan
Ian, from The Bookstore, was busy creating a Christmas window display most of today.
Terry Wogan
With the lights, purple sheets, snow, and reindeer, he has created something to wonder at.
