S Club sang ‘Never had a dream come true …’
Then it could have happened to you in Abingdon today at the Extravaganza. The Oxford Caledonian pipers were there to play
Father Christmas was in a sleigh.
Bath Street was packed. Hopefully this was a dream for the retailers.
And if your dream is to be a fireman then the Abingdon fire service want new recruits.
There were queues to go inside the glass snow ball.
Then S Club came on the stage, and sang some songs well known from round the turn of the millennium including ‘Ever had a Dream Come True” and ‘S Club Party’ .
The Christmas lights were switched on, and the fireworks were amazing. Here is my attempt at a video with parade, lights on, S Club, and fireworks.
Thankyou again to the Abingdon Chamber of Commerce who stage this event. It could have been the best yet.
Totally agree – it was a brilliant day, so well organised by a small band of people.
And before the moaners start, as on the Abingdon fb page, they should remember that, look at the hordes of happy people, and just scroll on by.
The whole day in Abingdon on Thames was a pure delight..a big thank you. To all who made it so
Well done to all involved – hope retailers got plenty of trade
Well done to all – not many people realise that this is mostly done by volunteers – most of them alongside their day-jobs. The Town Council provide invaluable support with manpower on the day and the spectacular fireworks are funded by sponsors – but pulling it all together is a year-round job done by a very small team. Well done them.
This is the first of several Christmas events in the Town Centre this year:
– Craft Market Saturday 4 Dec
– Festive Fun Thursday 8
– Carol Sing-along Thursday 15
– and a whole range of plays, concerts, services etc. See http://www.abingdon.gov.uk/events for details.
I’m always critical on here but I have been away this weekend and my 19 year old daughter said what a fantastic evening last night with Sclub 7 and the best fireworks she has ever seen !!! Pat on the back to all involved and keep it going !! Make Abingdon proud !!
S Club 7 were very good and I overheard many people saying the fireworks were better than ever.
Thank you to everyone involved.
The fireworks were magnificent and I say this as one who has seen some awesome displays in her time. Perhaps “Abingdon fireworks” in general could become a town speciality.
Fantastic Fireworks!!!!!!
Enjoyed a Hot Coffee, in a packed R&R, when walked Bath Street, to see Market stalls, a while at Punch and Judy, before making way to a good view of The Publix rocking the square…
Fireworks were brilliant.
I am not surprised that the extravaganza was the best yet.
I always say there ain’t no party like an S club party.
The Extravaganza was something that everyone in Abingdon can be extremely proud of – and yes, to echo Hester, the result of some incredibly hard work by a very small team of people, many of whom have to run their own businesses as well in challenging times.
