The scaffolding came down on Monday revealing the new look to the flats above 13-17 Stert Street.

I thought it a crime that one of Abingdon’s best window displays was half hidden behind the scaffold for so long. But now their Easter display can be seen.

A few doors up, at number 27 Stert Street, there is another Easter display but you will have to wait two days to buy one of their filled pinatas. It is now a Saturday sweet shop.

A New Thai Restaurant in Town

The Thai Ochid closed down about six months ago to the disbelief of some people in Abingdon. Perhaps running the restaurant and Thai Supermarket was a step too far. But now a new Thai Restaurant has opened at the same location – redecorated and completely refurnished. I haven’t been in yet but their website and facebook page look good, as do their takeaway menus.
Salinas 3

People who have lived in Abingdon more than a couple of years may well remember Salinas, a Lebanese Restaurant that used to be next to Skinny Hippo.
Mr Salinas, whatever his real name, also runs a more informal restaurant in Didcot, on Broad Street, called Salinas 2.
It looks like he he is coming back again to Abingdon, with a more informal looking Cafe / Bar where the Abingdon Flower Shop once was on Bath Street.
Most of the decorating has already been done. The front is painted Salinas-brown. It will be opening soon.
Original E & R Goff sign rediscovered

After many years the original E & R Goff sign has been revealed. It was rediscovered behind a sign sponsored by the Daily Mail.
In exchange for advertising, the Daily Mail sometimes used to allow E & R Goff special deals such as free CDs to people buying the Daily Mail. But times have changed, there are not many special deals , and it has to be said the original sign is much more in keeping with the building. It is about 35 years old and dates from when Goffs took over the business from Browns(?).
