Behind the County Hall the pavement is getting the ‘York’ stone look now so familiar in the town centre.
The lift shaft is even deeper in the middle since the last time I managed to get a picture.
(With all the rain of the last day I should imagine it could get tricky working down there.)
The scaffolding was taken down from the roof of the County Hall but still remained in place awaiting the new balustrades – which have been added over the last two days. Scaffolding has also gone back up round the copula as something got knocked, possibly when the scaffolding was removed, and needs straightening up.
Meanwhile my most recent picture of the lift was taken a week ago and shows the hole when it was 4 metres deep. It could be 5 or even 6 metres by now.
The scaffolding round the County Hall is going up another level. It must be fairly near the top.

I could imagine the great Blondin, tightrope-walker, aerialist, and acrobat extraordinaire balancing upon the highest poles.
As nightfall falls there is still more scaffolding to erect tomorrow, when it could get even more extraordinaire.
What was just a concept, a drawing on paper, has become a reality as the builders took over today from the architects and planners. Scaffolding is being erected, and earth cleared where the liftshaft will be dug.
