This festive season began in a fairly normal way. There was a light frost when the Christmas Trees appeared for sale at Peachcroft Farm, direct from the grower.

Last weekend, All Saints Methodist Church held a Christmas Tree Festival. There were about 20 trees, including one from the Abingdon Writers.

Thanks to Jan for these pictures. She said the Police tree had blue flashing lights! The festival raised £400 for charity.

With only a week to go to, St Nicolas Church decorated their tree.

The Market Place Christmas tree now looks totally splendid – covered in snow.

Tree in Need of a Caption

Pudsey was in Abingdon today collecting money. Tomorrow (Friday) is the big day when much of the BBC helps to raise money for Children in Need.
(Behind him Poundland was doing a roaring first day of trade.)

Meanwhile a Christmas Tree has become a topic of much conversation since it appeared yesterday. A replacement is to be sent by the supplier, but before that happens I feel the tree is in need of a fitting caption… One Pound to Children in Need for each good one. Be generous with your good humour.
More autumn leaves

Two Caldecott Landmark Trees

For as long as I have known there has been a grand colonade of trees along Caldecott Road. Most are Lime trees but there were some Chestnut trees near the bottom – the last of which was felled a week or so. Young trees have been planted nearby to replace the others.

Nearby, on St Amand Drive this large conifer was probably already established when Caldecott House stood on this site – the home of Doctor Barnardo’s from 1945 to 1971. In 1972 the Barnado’s Home was demolished and the present estate built. The giant tree has recently turned brown and could also be facing the axe.
