New Saturday Local Excellence Market

Local Excellence Market
The first quarter-yearly Local excellence Market was on the Market Place today. It has food, drink, and crafts and is sponsored by Choose Abingdon and the Abingdon Carbon Cutters.
Local Excellence Market
It is good to see a new Saturday Market established.

There were good crowds whenever I went by. People were also attracted into town by the Craft Fair – also on this weekend at the Old Abbey Buildings

Citizens Advice Bureau – not just on Thursday

Friends of the CAB
Two well known ladies were on the Market Place as Friends of the CAB (Citizens Advice Bureau) today. The CAB is a much needed service in these days of financial hardship with its confidential advice. The CAB has a notice in their window at Old Abbey House (next to the town council) that says ‘Drop-In Session. Thursdays Only 9:30 – 1:30′ which has led to a rumour that their funding has been cut and they are only open on Thursday. Quite wrong. The drop in session is in addition. They are open all weekdays by appointment.

“36 young people from Oxfordshire will be attending the 22nd World Jamboree in Sweden next summer. Jamboree’s are huge camps with Scouts attending from nearly every country on earth. Lord Baden Powell intended them to foster good relations between countries and promote peace. They’re great fun and they can change young peoples lives, I know, I attended one in Korea in 1991. Today they have been packing bags at tesco in return for small change. If you’d like to help you can also become a Jamboree mate. For a donation of £10 you will be informed of the contingent progress and even get a post card from Sweden.
