The Churchill retirement homes development on Ock Street has reached a couple of storeys high in October.

It looks even higher at the rear of the site.

Meanwhile the Fairacres Phase 2 demolition has not far to go.

Pictures around the site shows how it will look with the larger car park enclosed in the centre of shopping centre. All those cars will leave by the existing route. People did raise concerns when the plans were authorised about how slow it will be getting out during rush hour.

New Retirement apartments at seven blocks high

A large crane is helping to build the Churchill retirement apartments where the Vauxhall dealership once sold Corsas on Ock Street.

There is also a large For Sale sign helping to balance the crane.

Last month when I looked the inner walls were two blocks high. The inner walls are now about seven blocks high and the redbrick external part of the cavity walls are being added.

Planning permission was finally granted and construction is now underway on the one and two bedroom retirement apartments across the road from the fire station and Mayott House in Ock Street, Abingdon. They are also close to Carswell School. The building will be called Albert Lodge as Albert Park is not far away.

Currently they are two blocks high. I will return in a few weeks time and see how that has changed.
Knowl For Sale

The Knowl, Stert Street, in Abingdon is for sale. It has been been a mental health rehabilitation and recovery residential care home for over 20 years. The care home has moved to another Abingdon location and the historic building is looking for a new occupant.

Thomas Merrifield has it on the market for £800,000 and say this is ‘a unique and rare opportunity to acquire a Grade II star listed former care home with 15 bedrooms, 4 bedroom annexe, numerous receptions and shared communal facilities located in the heart of Abingdon town centre. The Knowl represents a landmark building within Abingdon due to its striking period architecture and substantial appearance.’
The Knowl also features on the town portal – Abingdon People and Places.
