There was a Duck Race on the River Ock yesterday. The owner of the winning duck received a Kindle Fire.

Thames Water employees were holding events in 8 of the Helen and Douglas House charity shops during the day for fund raising and to help their own customers.
Michaelmas, or the Feast of Michael and All Angels, is celebrated on the 29th of September every year. It celebrates the Angel of Light who slayed a dragon.

In Abingdon, not far from the Church of St Michael and All Angels, the annual Abingdon Michaelmas Fair takes place early in October each year.
On 2nd September 1752 people went to bed, and when they woke up it was 14th September. The dates had changed to be the same as the rest of Europe. Since that time the Abingdon Michaelmas Fair has happened on the Monday before the 11th October instead of the Monday before the 30th September.
At the fair pedestrians can walk safely down the middle of Ock Street and High Street between the fairgrounds rides.

The NHS in Oxfordshire is calling on young people, parents, patients, carers and people who live and work in Oxfordshire to have their say on how health care is delivered. They are seeking your views on how local GP, community and hospital services should develop so that services are of high quality, closer to home, more convenient with better access and can overcome a £200m funding gap by 2020/21.
The event will be a ‘drop in’ style and staff will be available to have an informal chat with you to share ideas on how NHS services in Oxfordshire can deliver high quality care now and in the future. The Big Conversation Abingdon Roadshow will be held on Wednesday 19 October 9.30am to 4pm – Abingdon Community FreeSpace Shop, Bury Street (opposite H. Samuel).

What was a shoe shop for children, next to Throwing Buns, is to become a Jeweller. And I hear from Peter that the guitar shop in Stert Street will become an Estate Agents.
There is a town council meeting on 5th October which I cannot attend. I expect they will be making progress on the Guildhall and the Local Area Plan.
I’ll be at Preston Road Community Centre where we have the monthly committee meeting. So if anybody can make it to the town council to write a report that would be good. It is 7 pm in the Roysse Room.
