Wrong Abingdon

I did see the name Abingdon on a Medical Practice near where I am this weekend but will be unable to report on events in Abingdon-on-Thames. So if anybody has any reports send them to backstreet60@gmail.com. The medical practice is in Glasgow.

Brass Concert and SPLASHED of PINK on Saturday

There is a fundraising event at St Michael and All Angels’ Church, Abingdon, on Saturday, 8th July 2023, at 7 pm.

Wantage Academy Brass and Youth Brass will be at the church to play. Proceeds from ticket sales will go to The Abingdon Bridge (TAB), Tariro (Hope For Youth in Zimbabwe) and St Michael’s Church.

Locally based Charity, Against Breast Cancer, is encouraging local businesses in Abingdon to turn their window pink to win the Splash Of Pink trophy on Saturday.

The Market Place will also be splashed with pink.

Sunken boat pulled from the Thames

Thanks to Tim for the report and pictures:

Several years ago a boat broke free from its mooring and sank in the middle of the Thames off the field near swift ditch.

Today it was being recovered using heavy equipment that had been brought in to carry out repairs to the rail bridge further upstream.

As the new owner of the field has banned any further mooring, loose boats will now come from the other bank.

Abingdon Platinum Jubilee Wood – Information Board

Thanks to Clive for these pictures:

Lucille Savin of Abingdon Carbon Cutters has erected a new notice board in Rye Farm Meadow, near where the Park Run begins.

The Abingdon Carbon Cutters have received permission from the Vale of White Horse District Council to plant 1500 native trees in Rye Farm Meadow, and the board provides more information about the trees and the diverse wildlife they will support.

Lucille is frequently seen in Abingdon, assisting at plant stalls and engaging in planting and gardening activities. Here she is showing others how to make Robin boxes.

Lucille is the first female Head Gardener at Merton College, Oxford. She has transformed the College grounds with her innovative planting. She is passionate about using sustainable practices and keeping her team up to date with the latest horticultural trends.
