Sale of Contents at The Crown and Thistle

Refurb Update
The Crown and Thistle will be closed for about four months, starting next Monday, while refurbishment takes place.
Refurb Update
There will be a sale of contents on 18th/19th June 2013 in the car park.

I’m not sure if the stocks will be for sale, but most things will have to go, and the proceeds will go to Charity I believe.

Carl – you have got me worried! The new owners of the C&T are very conscious of the history of the building and the plans they showed earlier this year for the refurbishment were clearly intended to build on and showcase that history. So I am surprised if what they are selling will have any historical value – my first reaction was that selling it off to the general public, with proceeds to charity, was a nice idea. Will go and check it out…

PS I completely agree with you about the pub signs. If GK really don’t want to use them they should be offered to the town to keep safe till a future owner takes a different view
    – or maybe display somewhere.

Yeah I mean, why wouldn’t they want to keep all their old tat when they are spending a fortune on a total refurbishment of the place !

Thank you for your comments The Crown & Thistle is selling contents within the building that will no longer be in keeping with the future plans.Naturally all historical pieces will be back in place on completion of refurbishment
As you are aware the hotel is a grade 1 listed building therefore it will be sympathetically restored to its original glory and will only enhance the historical site of Abingdon as it is one of the oldest hotels in the town.Look forward to welcoming you for the festive period.

The Crown and Thistle was bought by Oakman Inns for £16m so I think they are pretty sure that they will be successful in making this into a beautiful top class hotel and restaurant.

They also own the Blue Boar in Witney and the Old Post Office in Wallingford among others so they aren’t rookies by any means, much like Wetherspons who are also investing heavily in Abingdon

Stop kicking the place will you, chaps.

I’m not sure I’ve got room for a1980s repro four poster but having a look round on Tuesday will be nice as long as it isn’t raining!

You mentioned Wetherspoons. I’ve heard they plan on opening in October. Is this realistic seeing as nothing appears to have happened in there yet?

I bought a few bits from this sale. My favourite items, (some old beer bottles) were subsequently stolen by someone, despite them being put aside with a clearly marked ‘sold and paid for’ sign on them. Thanks to whoever did this………it’s called theft.
