Scrap Yard at Rye Farm Commercial Car Park

Scrap Yard at Rye Farm
A scrap yard has appeared over Easter at the Rye Farm Commercial Car Park – that is the one over Abingdon Bridge and behind Rye Farm Car Park.

This evening the car park was full of caravans and other vehicles. In the middle were three open top lorries full of scrap metal, and a small crane that was breaking up an old car and some white kitchen appliances. It looked as if anything that was not metal got discarded in a ditch.

Children were playing on rope swings suspended from the chestnut trees by the causeway, and one small boy was getting a ride on a quad bike. I also saw dogs, and some hens pecking round in the dirt.

come on now, don’t you know they are vulnerable – we need to let them practice their traditional ways or else you’re a vile racist.

Just reporting the facts at the time.
    Nothing wrong with that.
What I object to is that its my money that is used to clean the area up after they move on – noticed white van man
prowling south Abingdon yesterday. Van stacked hi with white goods.

It is the cost of cleaning the site afterwards that really riles. Us residents are fined if we fly tip.

Just driven past, a team of Council Contractors sorting the rubbish left & a several vehicles to remove it. I image quite an expensive job.

and the bit that makes me laugh is that the county council emplys a “traveller liaison” officer who goes around checking they are ok and not getting their rights infringed.

It’s impossible to say anything without appearing racist, just block them in & get the revenue, police & all other relevant authorities in & bloody well nail them!

If they didn’t leave so much mess and disruption when they left I think people would be a lot more tolerant of them. The bottom line it that they don’t care. They are happy to leave their mess behind. I can’t stand them for that reason alone.

People will only respect the Law if there are consequences for them personally. Anyone who acts in this selfish way with apparent immunity, brings the Law into disrepute.

What would Dave’s “Big Society” be like if everyone said “sod it” and did the same ?
