All quiet at the Anchor, not so at the Tap

Anchor
All quiet in the Anchor since it closed two weeks ago.
Anchor
There are still posters to say a band are playing tonight, but the bands and quiz nights have all stopped, and all is dark inside. Greene King are advertising for a new operator. “… welcoming applications from experienced operators who have a history of delivering a high standard of food offer.
Tap
Meanwhile at the Brewery Tap the Pie and a Pint Springtime Festival was in full swing today, with twenty beers and twenty ciders in the marquee round the back,
Tap
and live bands at the front (think this one is Flex-a-muscle).

The Brewery Tap having recently won the CAMRA Town and Country Pub of the Year for South Oxfordshire.

surprised they can fit a band in there – whenever i’ve been in there it’s been crammed shoulder to shoulder – although that is usually a christmas eve.

Moody man – they have renamed themselves Abingdon Fashion – “we love our town so much we have named our shop after it”.

By the way, did you go to the Good Living Event on Friday? It was a fantastic display of some of the good things on offer here – not just the retailers, but other businesses and community events – and most of the entrants for the Young Entrepreneur Award – we should all be REALLY proud of them for what they are doing in these hard times.

PS Moodyman – did you notice the new Thai restaurant that opened last weekend (right opposite the former YBYNU) – it has got excellent reviews so far…

Must admit I was a little disappointed with the take away we had from the the new Thai, very small portions, 3 pieces of chicken in the thai green curry and at over £7 a dish..not cheap. Think I will be sticking with the original one on Ock Street.

A great location for a mini-TESCO! Tap the tourist trade!
Handy for church, boaters mooring along the wharf, & a short stroll from town centre. Little parking now, but perhaps Tesco could lease the Long Alley Almshouses’ garden property behind the Anchor?
