After many years the original E & R Goff sign has been revealed. It was rediscovered behind a sign sponsored by the Daily Mail.
In exchange for advertising, the Daily Mail sometimes used to allow E & R Goff special deals such as free CDs to people buying the Daily Mail. But times have changed, there are not many special deals , and it has to be said the original sign is much more in keeping with the building. It is about 35 years old and dates from when Goffs took over the business from Browns(?).
Great memories for me in this shop hope it stays another 90 years . Keep up the good work
Goff still looks like a proper old shop the new units look terrible they are just big faceless boxes with no character . There will be more big national shops that will close in this town you mark my words and then all that will be left will be the independents and the sooner the better . I am glad to see new shops open in the town last year Galaxy techno has a lot to offer and the ox14 deli and my wife loves Ybuynu as it is like Gear change . Goffs has been through recessions and still survived and if we support them it will survive this recession so get spending you tight gits
If you look really closely you can just about make out the “Browns” name underneath.
many years back i bought an entire container of penny sweets from them, such was their tastiness.
I wonder how long it will be before he has to cover up the “tobacco” sign?
“Browns” ! That brings back memories. Buying tobacco loose by the ounce and packs of two Domino cigarettes to smoke as an underage teenager at the Regal.
gj, still sell tobacco loose, but unfortunatly it is now by the gram!
