The new solar powered Christmas trees have not been a shining success during their first Christmas in Abingdon.
I have seen a blue flicker from some of the trees positioned, next to far brighter street lights, on Abingdon Bridge, but don’t know if it is the sun or the streetlight giving them the energy for their faint flickerings.
Some other trees have not managed a flicker, that I have noticed, but then the sun has been like a stranger to us this Christmas. Lets hope things change before twelfth night.
..makes you wonder about those solar panels in this country; at this latitude.!
Whose idea was Solar-powered Christmas lights? there ain’t much solar around at this time of year.
The one outside our office in Stert Street hasn’t shone at all, sadly. Perhaps they needed to be outdoors in the summer somewhere and not left in a box til the last minute!
The star looks lovely though
Is it because they are on street lights? They may have sensors to tell them when it gets dark, and because they are on street lights it doesn’t? Daft but possibly an explanation!
Kat P – that is the rumour I heard too.
They are designed to charge during the day and switch on when it gets dark. But they don’t ever sense that it is dark!
Presumably if we had experienced a power cut over the Christmas period, they would have come on when the street lights didnt!!
