Rain of last 24 hours

Regarding the heavy rain last night Peter S emailed me to say: a moat has formed at the castle mound off the Motte, there is a raging torrent under the footbridge over the Stert at Boxhill, and the underpass to town from Bath street is flooded. He didn’t send pictures though so you will have to imagine some of that.

Last weekend we got caught in quite a rain shower walking back from Sunningwell to Abingdon. Clouds looked dramatic beforehand.

The rain hit us as we crossed over the A34.

Northbound, towards Oxford a rainbow coloured the sky.

Southbound, all the colour had seaped out of the land – as my camera saw it.

Before doing this blog I did pop out to check the underpass. Still flooded – so no need to imagine that one.

There’s a very cool piece of engineering in Kuala Lumpur where they have a two tier road tunnel which gets closed to act as a storm drain in torrential rain. Maybe that’s what the designers of the underpass were aiming at?

Slightly off topic but still connected to rain and flooding I guess.
I noticed how high and fast the river was today, likewise the Abbey Mill Stream. Has this anything to do with the disappearance of three of the now, fully grown, cygnets? I noticed that 4 cygnets had suddenly become one lone bird. Does anyone know, do they just migrate away from the parents or has the flooding water caused loss of habitat?
