As somebody once told me, progress will start to be seen at the Abbey Shopping Centre in August.
Most of the framework for the new fashion shops was put up today.
Remaining shops, including Thomas Cook, the travel experts, are open as usual – protected by scaffolding and hoardings.
Crikey, its that big!!!!!!!!!!
I didn’t realise that it would go back that far……
Big stores coming to town I hope, or the worlds biggest charity shop!!!
Wouldn’t an M and S be nice?!! But that is wishful thinking I am afraid.
I did not realise that the tenants of some of the new shops had already been decided – are we to have a large (building size) fashion shop?
I don’t think theyre decided yet Cassandra – unless something happened very recently. The intention of the landlord is to create two large units which would be suitable to attract national fashion retailers (river island/h&m/next type of thing), but I don’t think any actual deals with retailers have been done yet.
Hope this helps clarify situation
Some big names would be good, but please don’t let Abingdon just become a clone of other towns.
Some indies would be nice, as you say Kelly.
I would be amazed if we attracted one of the very big names, I too would like to see some independent shops. When I spoke to various people on the council their only real hope was for yet another supermarket – yawn.
Another supermarket and then the closure of another small grocery shop – nil gain it seems to me?
cassandra, it doesn’t matter (I’m afraid).
