A week of mayhem from our own Abingdon correspondents

A week of Mayhem
Peter sent me a picture a few days back of “a fallen tree in the public park in Lambrick Way. Incidently the sky over the Marina was thick with swifts. They must have got a free trip up here on the strong winds. Also the Thames path is flooded at the little bridge over the mill stream near the lock.”
A week of Mayhem
Spike sent me a picture at water level of the high water on the River Thames – from his canoe.

A week of Mayhem
I also got a message that the Fair had made a bit of a mess trying to leave the land by the River Ock.  It looks like the Circus did not even try to compound the problem, and have bypassed Abingdon.

Water levels are now going down.  Winds have dropped. We just need some warm weather in order to reinforce the government message that we are in a drought.

Was there any sign of the Oxfordshire tornado?

A plague of swifts, tornados, droughts, cancelled Circuses – it’s all getting a bit biblical in Abingdon-on-Thames. I love this blog – local airshow to the Apocalypse all in one weekend!

    Wet indeed!

The earth in my garden has been absolutely sodden for more than a fortnight now and is showing no signs of drying out. Early seeds have been drowned or frozen even under the cloche and things aren’t looking hopeful for anything except the grass!

Such a shame to see the mess left behind after the fair in the Ock Meadow, the photo gives little idea of the extent of the damage to the ground.
Anyone know if the Fair proprietors have a duty of care to return the site to its original condition, a state it certainly is not in at the moment.

Im sure they didnt make a mess for the fun of it. No doubt they will have it back to normal soon. In the mean time what does a bit of mud matter? Its good to see the towns open spaces put to good use n lets hope the circus comes back when the weather picks up. Really Smith D I wouldnt get too worked up about a bit of redundant grass. Or do the bowls club use it?
