The Mayor of Abingdon and his Deputy took part today in sky dive to raise money for the Mayor’s Charities, one of which is the Fire Fighters Charity. The fund raising was joined by firemen from Bicester.
All did a tandem jump which involves being strapped to an instructor.
and taken by a very cramped aircraft up to about 13,000 feet over Royal Air Force – Weston on The Green. The cloud level was about 5,000 feet. Then they threw themselves out of the plane, fell for about 30 seconds to just above the clouds. The parachutes were then successfully opened.
Not much more to tell. There was a lot of wheeling round as the parachutes came near the ground. After landing, the Mayor was raring to have another go, but his Deputy felt a little sick – being somebody who can’t even do a fairground ride normally.
Well done, both of you!
I bought the esteemed editor of this blog a pint in The Kings Head & Bell afterwards and report that, though steady on his feet, he kept falling to his knees and kissing the ground in the manner of a former Pope.
On a general matter. We know that the editor spends too many hours doing other things than just putting together this excellent blog … He’s open to other people sending him photos of Abingdon and their comments, though in the same established context/style of this site. I am a ‘newcomer’ and I think this site is a ‘belter’, a credit to the considerable effort put into it and was the best introduction I had to Abingdon when I moved here in late 2006.
I’ll leave it to The Editor as to how he could handle having a number of ‘stringers’ walking around town with a camera and an attitude. Perhaps he might blog on the matter …
This site has become an absolute asset for Abingdon and it would never have been invented without Mr Mystery putting in lots of hours … let’s make it an institution.
Well, I can honestly say both the mayor and his deputy have more courage than I do.
Far too scary for me….
Bun tossing taken to its highest level!!
