Each year a different anniversary seems to be celebrated at the 2nd Abingdon Scout fireworks at Long Furlong Community Centre. The 15th time of running the event coincided with 25 years of Beavers.
The gates opened at 6:30 and the fireworks started at about 7:30. A large crowd gathered mostly inside, but some people watch from outside. Inside children played with light sabers, and somebody was running about in a beaver costume to amuse the mostly young crowd. Burgers, and hot dogs, and other refreshments were on sale. I think a young lass called Lucy pushed the plunger after the customary 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 countdown, and set off the first rocket. Excellent fireworks as ever.
And to all those who stand outside and don’t pay the £10 for a family ticket – shame on you. If more people do that there won’t be fireworks in future…..
Support your local groups – scouts, charities etc etc.
