Digital Switchover Day 1 – worries remain

Digital Switchover Day 1
The digital switchover help van was on the Market Place today, but I did not see queues of worried BBC2 viewers climbing the ramp to seek assistance.

Today the BBC2 analogue signal vanished for ever. BBC2 can now only be watched on digital in Abingdon
Digital Switchover Day 1
In order to watch Champions League football tonight I had to switch back to ITV analogue. For some reason ITV digital has never been strong enough to hold a picture together in our house.

In two weeks time, on Digital Switchover Day 2, the remaining analogue channels, including ITV, will be switched off for ever in Abingdon. The bandwidth released should be enough to allow them to boost the ITV digital signal so we can watch more Champions League football in our house – but the worry remains.

I agree!!!! We cannot get ITV, Channel4 or 5 on our digital tv only analogue so when they switch them off I hope that will change.

pretty sure you should be able to get them already – maybe your aerial isn’t erected correctly?

I agree – Worth getting someone out to check your aerial
We have (from previous owner) two aerials on our house which bizarrely point in different directions. They pick up different local news channels and one signal is much stronger than the other. So it may be youre pointed at the weaker transmitter.

Quick way to check is compare with neighbours houses and see if pointing the same way.

When we switched to digital Freeview a few years back, we just bought and had installed on the roof a high gain aerial. We also have cable which is not a problem, generally.

The ramp is for wheelchair users – I can tell this as I’ve been on the Vale of White Horse District Council’s Disability Awareness Course, for taxi drivers – best £45 I’ve ever spent.

Thanks for all the help! We have cable on the main TV but it is the smaller ones in the bedrooms and they have to work on indoor aerials and we always used to get a very good picture on them.

Karen, we’re exactly the same. Our house cannot get ITV, channel 4 or channel 5 on the freeview. I’ve tried using an internal aerial and it made no difference. Hoping that things will get sorted out when the full switchover happens.

We had the same issues in Seattle. Make sure you have antennas that match the frequencies being used for digital there. Also expect that it will take a few weeks for the broadcasters to adjust their signals to peak strength.
