Another Hole in St Helen’s Wharf

Two people reported a possible sinkhole on Fix My Street after noticing a horse shoe sized hole in the pavement along St Helen’s Wharf.

The hole has an open void beneath the surface. There are also cracks in the nearby tarmac. (And somebody has put petunias down there.)

Another hole appeared on St Helen’s Wharf in 2021 and was caused by erosion of the wharf wall.

A hole has also appeared in the footpath on Wilsham Road where the old Canal used to meet the Thames.
This happens every year and in the same area of path !

I’m not that old, but I remember a time, back in perhaps the 80s, where I was taught that if there was a hole in the ground; to walk around it. There wasn’t a cone, a barrier or even a cordon anywhere near it!

It’s a wonder any of us survived!

Update – Friday 17th July 5pm – this hole was being filled in by “Highways Maintenance”

Now no one will be able to fall in to it – no matter how hard they try to!

Too late I already did that’s why they was so quick to get down there a fill it after I sent my complaint in but they wasn’t quick enough to get back to me and contact me I was unsure whether they had actually filled it or just put something over it as this morning I walked down to check and I see they had put something over it but couldn’t see if it had been filled
