The new Morrisons Daily at Peachcroft Shopping Centre opened its doors this morning (Thursday, 23 April 2026), following a quick turnaround. The previous Budgens store closed 11 days ago.
The change is immediately visible. New Morrisons Daily signage has been installed — with some final touches still being completed after an inspection — and an arc of green and yellow balloons marks the reopening.
Inside, the overall layout, flooring and shelving appear largely unchanged. However, staff are now in Morrisons-branded uniforms, and the store is now stocked with a range of Morrisons own-label products, giving new choice for Abingdon shoppers.
If you’re thinking of trying out the new Morrison at Peachcroft, don’t bother. I’ve been in 3 times to try to buy a lettuce and this morning,b a Sunday, there was virtually no fresh fruit or veg at all. Other shelves were also almost bare. So much for people entertaining at the weekend.
I wanted a litre of semi skimmed milk, but there were one so I took whole instead. On the few hundred yard walk home, the bottle leaked from the bottom, all over my bag.
This store seems geared towards the fizzy drinks and sugary items bought by workmen, of which there was more than enough.
Despite have to get at least one bus to shop elsewhere, I shan’t be patronising Morrisons until they get their act together.
To echo the above, I went in to get some fresh produce on Sunday and there was none on the shelves, someone who worked there said they’d been caught out as the lower prices compared to Budgens were attracting more customers.
Hopefully they get the balance right going forward.
