Something New for Abingdon

The new restaurant in West St Helen Street opens on April 2nd. It brings something new to Abingdon and appears to be like tradition small, fine dining French restaurants where the chef creates the menu around what is in season.

There is a single dégustation menu. Diners let the kitchen to take them through a series of around ten carefully prepared courses, letting the evening unfold at its own pace.

Good luck to them on April 2nd and beyond.

Unfortunately they have clearly performed poor market research. They will be closed within 4 months. This is not what Abingdon is looking for

Among my peers there is plenty of appetite for this sort of thing to have locally for special occasions. Based on capacity it sounds like they don’t need it to appeal to everyone, just for those willing to spend the extra. There are dozens of similarly priced restaurants around Oxfordshire which seem to do well enough. I think we ought to be proud that Abingdon can add another notch to its belt.

I won’t and can’t criticise or pass judgement until I’ve eaten there which may be for some time as my wallet is something like a clam thus requiring hydraulic assistance to open it for such expenditure.

Whilst thinking of such a dining experience in Abingdon earlier today I was reminded of this (viewing discretion is advised) there is no mention of a wafer thin mint on the menu. https://youtu.be/aczPDGC3f8U?si=5yYiV1_EIULzHTmh

      Alert: racist comment 😉
At least you’re not a Yorkshireman. When he opens his wallet, moths fly out. I live for thirteen years in Yorkshire. I love it.

        Part Staffs, part Lincs here.

At least nowadays the moths have trouble eating the plastic money they give us to play with.

You are free to make one. But £115 for a meal boissons non compris does seem a little out of the ordinary, don’t you think?
