There was a big turnout at the 618th Abingdon 5K Parkrun this morning, with 502 finishers – the fourth-highest ever. The Abingdon Parkrun event began in 2011 and three of those top four attendances have been during 2025. The weather was cool and dry, ideal for running. There were also lots of volunteers to help and encourage the runners.
While many runners are unaffiliated fun runners and walkers, there was also a wide mix of clubs represented – from local clubs such as Abbey Running Club, Abingdon AC, Harwell Harriers, and White Horse Harriers, to visitors from further away. Among the most distant were North Shields Polytechnic AC from the North East and Canterbury Harriers from the South East.
With the Abingdon Marathon tomorrow, some were using the parkrun as a gentle warm-up.
The two-lap course took runners past Abingdon Lock and Kingfisher Barn.
As always, many go from the finish and gather in Abingdon Market Place, where coffees and catch-ups have become a tradition.
