Somebody leaned out of his car window at Wilsham Road and asked ‘Do you know the cause of the hold up?”
One.Network indicates that there are temporary traffic lights by the McDonalds roundabout . The hold up could be a knock on effect of that.
The Living Streets website says that the ‘22nd September is World Car Free Day, when all around the world, towns and cities allow people to experience streets free of motor traffic as well as making travel easier for those who rely on private vehicles for health and mobility reasons.‘
do you know the cause of the holdup? – it’s you and everyone else doing what you’re doing.
They aren’t stuck in traffic.
They are the traffic.
This is entirely untrue. It is a Trump like “fact”.
The hold up on Wednesday was because of (either urgent or badly managed) 3 way traffic lights at the McDonalds roundabout for most of the day.
“Don’t moan about the queue, you ARE the queue” is such a purile ‘argument’.
Don’t complain about long waits and queues in A&E – it’s YOUR fault for being injured..you ARE the wait. So goes your argument.
Don’t complain, nan, about years of hip pain…you ARE the waiting list. So goes your argument.
The wealthy are ok, at the expense of the poor. I guarantee you are wealthier than someone else …so you’re clearly part of that problem too; according to you ‘argument’.
We pay a fair amount in taxes; it’s not asking too much to ask those tasked with improving traffic flow to do something about it. They often don’t, and that’s why it’s so bad. But hey….they still get their £$£ for providing us with a bad service. THAT’S what smarts so much.
If cars were really the issue….perhaps we should stop celebrating MINI pumping out 1000 cars A DAY…or Ford, Vauxhall etc.
Personal vehicle journeys are without a doubt the easiest, most convenient, efficient, comfortable, least stressful way to travel from A to B…not every time, but far and away the vast majority of the time.
Perhaps, rather than trying to get the genie back in the bottle we should be looking for BETTER ways to utilise car journeys…not castigate that decision.
Post COVID, who wants to sit on a bus with people’s farts and breath dribbling down the inside of the windows?
How about 10% council tax discount for all occupants of a car share.
What about free parking for car share cars.
Encourage people to use their cars BUT BETTER.
You’d reduce the number of cars on the road overnight, potentially…without vilifying car ownership.
It just needs some forward thinking rather than regressive, chastising and punishment for daring to chose your car.
But what do we get….20mph limits…
🤷♂️
Well said Daniel. Your comment is spot on.
