With summer holidays behind us, Abingdon comes alive with a weekend of events. There is the annual Fun & Music in the Park organised by Abingdon Town Council.
The Abingdon Horticultural Society have their Autumn Show – a chance to admire displays of flowers, fruits, and vegetables, and crafts.
The Abingdon Healthfest 2024 is a free event (Saturday, 7th September, 10 AM – 2 PM, Abingdon Market Place). It offers a chance to connect with nineteen local organizations promoting health and well-being. See https://healthyabingdon.org.uk/healthfest2024.htm.
£10 per adult entry to Fun and Music in the park is a bit steep if you only want to go to the daytime activities.
Went to the Bunkfest last weekend. Lots happening. Cost nothing.
Yes, but Bunkfest is volunteer run – apparently they have 400 volunteers! In Abingdon people expect the Council to run things like this. Since of course they don’t have the staff to do it all, they have to buy in the services and there are only two ways they can pay for it – via all of our council taxes or by charging for entry. Most of Abingdon’s other events are volunteer-run – Heritage Weekend, Extravaganza, Splash of Pink etc – if we want more free events we need more volunteers!
