Upcoming Events

The Sea Green Singers will be singing protest songs at the Abbey Buildings. The QR code might not be readable but it links to https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/which-side-are-you-on-an-evening-of-songs-about-protest-in-oxfordshire-tickets-715713707967.

The Abingdon Extravaganza is back on 2nd December. There will be no fireworks this year as there was a significant protest after last year’s fireworks. A fuller explanation is given at : https://www.abingdonextravaganza.org/statement-about-extravaganza-23

Also on the same day is the Christmas Market at St Helen’s Church. St Helen’s is a protestant church.

The extravaganza is a great event for all. Great for local charities and a range of entertainment for all ages. Shame, if understandable, about the fireworks, but intrigued and looking forward to seeing the new finale.

The finale should be the Christmas lights, provided by the council and paid for us residents. What else do people want?!

Ha! Pollution from fireworks! The avocado eating wokeratti have made it to Abingdon I see! Simply pandering to a minority but vocal minority of dog owners

Never worked out the link between Christmas and fireworks. Fireworks are for November 5th. Christmas lights dies not need fireworks or the waste of money in providing them. Nothing to do with avocados, woke people or Braverman nonsense. Let’s have Christmas and leave fireworks to November 5th!

Do I have to eat avocado AND tofu to be a member of the wokerati. Asking because I want to meet all the membership criteria but the whole concept seems to be a bit vague.

I think the only qualification is to be called woke. That may be because you are progressive or care about the environment or do not keep bleating on about migration.
I prefer to be woke than gammon!

Some people look for reasons to be offended. What a shame about the fireworks….they were the only reason we went.

Perhaps if we can be told the exact number of emails against the fireworks, so we can see if a bigger number ‘for’ them can come in for next year?

I believe there were other factors as well as ‘public opinion’, such as logistics, new health and safety risks, and the cost, including the now astronomical insurance required.
