Oxford Road roundabout works commences

Works have commenced at the Oxford Road roundabout in Abingdon. The work is scheduled to be completed in autumn 2024.

The works will involve:

  • Dedicated left slip road from Dunmore Road onto Oxford Road
  • Sewers
  • Lights

Traffic management and lights will be in place from February to July 2024. Information is available on the project website: https://s278.biz/page42.html.

Oxfordshire County Council is currently considering the Lodge Hill A34 Interchange plans, following a second round of consultation. A decision on the plans is expected soon.

On another topic. The Ock Mill Beefeater is closing on the 31st August. It has been there for some time. Perhaps it has lost it’s popularity.

Sorry to hijack but does anyone know if the rumours re the old Premier Inn are true? I was told that the Ock Mill had been sold to The Unicorn school but what about the hotel? Gossip suggests that it will become an immigration hotel – anyone know if this is true?

Shame the hotel can’t be converted into studio flats for first time buyers or a convalescent home for people not quite ready to be discharged from the JR.

Because it’s ridiculous gossip and sarcasm is the only way to deal with it.

That being said, the Marriot at Milton Park has had refugees in it for years now and there have been no issues…. maybe they should use the Premier Inn for it.

Why is it ridiculous? As you stated it’s perfectly plausible. Why are you jumping to the assumption that it is a negative thing?

Yes Laura I heard from a friend whos’ brother knew a cleaner who overheard a conversation where one of the strangers told the other drunken stranger that their sister heard a rumour that the hotel would be occupied by asylum seekers

I think you’ll find Colin threats how rumors like getting an A34 diamond interchange get started…

At least if it were actually left to some of those people you mention, it may get done….rather than leave it to the paid professionals to not get it done.

…where’s a consultant when you need one eh!?

@Janet the quality and service there was terrible. Also limited value in having an old dated restaurant when a new hotel is about to open
