Drone Footage of fields near Sunningwell and the Abbey Fields Housing development

Daniel has been flying his drone over the fields near Sunningwell village, capturing stunning images of the tractor trails crossing and circling the land.

He has also captured images of the Abbey Fields development in Abingdon,

where new homes are being built with a variety of roof colors, some red and some grey.

From above, Hobby Green resembles a road roundabout.

Thank you to Daniel for the pictures and for sharing the video, “A Play with the Drone out by Sunningwell Village.”

Perhaps the Hobby Green roundabout is the one the developers will claim is the one they thought they were committed to …

Oh great Daniel is back flying over people’s homes and invading their privacy with a camera in their back garden.

Still flying within 50m of people and buildings are we?

From the fields. You on old rules.
Can go over if I want. Read might change later in year. Now is ok
      Cropped photos. Closer than looked
      Sub 250g drone.
      Nowt wrong.
      Go away.

Did a video of this place from nothing to houses starting. Went to last July and lost patence with social media. YouTube. It got sold. Too much work for nothing back and little run time watched. This not a minute and still will be skimmed to 1/2. Waste of time is any video I do. Why YouTube run down this year. Thankless task.
      Not back
It won’t.last. all about a swimming pool
A Facebook piece. Sod all to do with this. Thought a few ground level would be done but the piece was what it is. Why do I bother.
Just YouTube and don’t think that will last. No engagement on the video.
Subscribers worth pretty much nothing. I try and do nice things to the rules for nothing back and now a moan. Lovely.

Daniel I am not accusing of flying up to people’s windows. The guidance states that, regardless of drone weight, people in their back garden are entitled to an expectation of privacy. Therefore, I would urge you to respect this as I have personally witnessed you flying and hovering low over these developments

Did this in the snow once as a building site.

Try to do right. Not meters over the town. buildings.
          Not keen if it drops.
Ok over some times like churches, makes nice videos.

Just give so sod all back.
          Waste of trime, always has.

Been acused off all sorts, spying in windows. A facebook thing. Very stessful when police will be called and he not listen, Was not me. wrong side of town at evening. Me at home!. Not do anyway.
Must have been me then as the only one with a drone as on facebook then someones starts. Ok, not you I know 🙂

From the side for general shots. Think ok. Got another drone after the temper ran out trying to give for little back on any site on YouTube with the DJI Spark drone, went last July. a 9 month break to april. Did a dear course to do more as a weight thing. No job or money at the time when paid for a course
Just try and give. Feel always a waste of time.
          I get nothing.

Those cropped. Closer than it was. On park at the side. Not over anyone.
Will go and use in middle of the downs and take another farmers field from a footpath.
What boring stuff thsat weould be if nothing a bit closer, interest to a facebook piece as local. Never over bit developement. If have briefly if seen. If it was me. could have but not keen on things, Thinking if power goes and it drops. Like from the side. maybe not always but mostly 🙂

End of giving to anything now.
Wanted this piece gone as was not. Me no control over anything.
If my facebook piece it could have been taken dowen. Not worth the stress.

I see alsorts of YouTube, Think a cheak. wrong but thing happen.
          Me compared to some.
          A saint.
          Seen right dodgy things.
2 wrongs not make a right but I try and annoy no one. Just do a nice bit of recording.

Some videos over at a height. Makes a video like a church, steeple.
Over housing, a bit boring. Nicer things than that.

Is a bit of a funny one. Can go over homes but not record property so all a bit daft.
Pointless fly in middkle of knowhere whatever people have is how it seems.
All a bit daft. Agree, privacy but general shots from a distance. Not one in gardens with swimming cosume on. Not a problem if nowt to see.
I try and anny no one. Dont think I cause greef but there we go.
Not more web site pushing now.
          Had enough of it all.
A drone for me mostly when on a nice walk. Quiet places a lot off got in mind now for my videos. Long videos a waste of time anyway.

          All good fun.

For drones under 250g (including camera drones), they are able to fly in residential areas and can be closer than 50m to buildings. The only limitation is the drone must be visible to the operator.

….you know it’s really hot at the moment, and has been for…2? 3 weeks….

Why does the Abbey outdoor pool not open until end of July? Asking for a friend.

Is it fair to say that “Better are running the pool well and to the benefit of Abingdon”?

I would support having the pool open, but I guess that it is difficult to accurately predict what the weather will be and have the pool filled and staffed in time for it….

I would love to see the pool open now and would use it. But I do understand the difficult economics/financial situation of it. Pre covid I used it in June and July (before the school holidays) on hot days – often there were only half a dozen people in it in the daytime (once I was the only one!), for whom the water had to be heated, lifeguards (2), cleaner, front desk all had to be paid. May have been more successful if it opened in the evenings. If the weather was currently cold many people would complain about the waste of money opening it. Same dilemma occurs with the weather in September.
If it ever does open again out of school holidays, then those people who moan about it being closed now should try actually using it.

I don’t think the onus is on us to use it. The onus is Better to provide the service to the community that they “chose” to provide services for – one assumes because it stacked up for them as a viable business model. They should be bound to now provide that service. How they do that from a business pov is their problem, shouldn’t be ours.

Like I’ve said before … A local data centre the size of a washing machine could heat that pool for free. Who’s looking in to that?

Whose talking to Honkset, or Tooting Bec or “A N Other” lido who seem to manage all this far better than better…. Out of interest, has Better paid US for the inability to provide an adequate service …or has the Vail paid them to provide it?

Is it value for money? Great if it is. One assumes the Council paid such due diligence to the Better deal as to the cinema. There’s no way we’d be lumbered with a provider that wasn’t performing….would we?

I think it is the result of lack of funding for (local?) councils and the government obsession with contracting everything out yo the private sector. I suspect the open air pool season was much longer in the 70s when councils were local and didn’t have to privatise everything out…

Hinksy (or, indeed honksey with auto correct) seem to manage, despite the “government”. It’s been 13 years. I’m no fan….but can we move on from this same old, same old. Non profit making children’s centres is one thing….but contracted out services for profit is something entirely different and I have no issue calling out “Better” for performing badly or not delivering what we expect them to.

It’s not “the governments” fault, it’s Better being given – paid for by us probably – the contract to deliver, and not delivering. And we, or the people we have to represent us, and ensure we get value for money in these scenarios doing….what?

I accept I may be entirely mistaken…it’s great value for money. Lucky us!

      Well done team. 👍

Better were given the contract to run the pool for the school holidays, including an agreement for back up council funds if needed ie subsidised. Any longer opening times would require further subsidy from council taxes. Personally I would accept that as I love outdoor swimming, but I suspect a lot of people wouldn’t. There are other subsidised services that I don’t necessarily agree with/use, but others do. You can’t please all of the people all of the time. The council are in a no win position, exacerbated by the vagaries of the weather.

Well, that sounds like a deal that favours Better, rather than the community.

Would still be interesting to know how other oools operate so much “better”… It’s clearly doable.

          Ah well….mustn’t grumble.

Daniel, it may be sub-250gm but I would resist bleating too loudly about poor income from your (interesting and informative to Abingdonians) drone activities lest someone starts to ask if you need a Commercial Operator’s licence from the CAA if you seek to operate in UK airspace “for reward”.

Re your terse “Go away”: Notwithstanding the sub-250gm conditions in CAP722 for drones fitted with cameras, you should acknowledge that citizens are increasingly wary of overt photography from above their properties (despite what is available from Google Earth). I would also expect the Developers and Architects to have commissioned their own aerial surveys from CAA-registered operators.

Daniel: great photos, thanks. Can your drone carry an infrared camera ? Strikes me that there would be a market for someone to fly, by request, over homes in winter and take photos of their roof to show how efficient their insulation was -or wasn’t. A niche market ?
