Oxfordshire County Council Resurfacing Roads in Abingdon

Oxfordshire County Council is currently undertaking resurfacing work in Abingdon. They completely resurfaced Stert Street, which was last resurfaced in 2007 as part of the Abits project. Contractors are also resurfacing parts of Marcham Road and Colwell Drive.

We have a problem with Peep O Day Road in Abingdon. The concrete road surface is worn away and is a danger to cars and cyclists. Thames Water lorries use the road to get to the sewage treatment works but say that they do not own the road. Oxfordshire County Council and the Vale say that they are not responsible for the road. No one knows who owns the road and we, the Drayton Road Allotment Committee. who have to use the road to get to the allotments cannot find out who owns the road. There is only a small section of the road that needs repair.

    Stert St looks great now.

There’s a significant suspension-damaging pothole coming into Abingdon from Drayton, has been there for months, I see it was reported on Fix my Street in April…

I notice they have completed the road markings in the resurfaced Stert Street, including the bus stop at the Vineyard/ Stert Street corner. I can’t remember this stop ever being used and read somewhere, maybe on this blog, that it was above the River Stert culvert and therefore cannot be used. Does this mean the problem has been resolved and the stop is about to be reinstated?

Some time ago, they stopped using the bus stop because of the River Stert culvert repairs. That is no longer the case. It maybe that there are just no bus routes that need that stop.

It all looks very good. I just hope that the substrate is in good order; otherwise, we will be back to the previous situation within a year. Resurfacing is not the same as repairing. I know it’s initially more expensive to complete proper repairs, but in the long term it is much more effective.
